Flood of '64
Published in Paperback by Ecco (April, 1988)
Author: David Long
Average review score:

The day to day of it--
The Flood of '64, David Long's second collection of short stories, is a superbly crafted assortment of insights into humanity. His characters are deftly treated with care and compassion to the point where readers can empathize with them-they can feel for them. The characters in this collection make the same decisions and mistakes, they feel the same pain as I, until I can't help but care for them. The writing in these stories is at times stunning, and the life David Long instills in his characters makes this book nothing less than precious to me.

Fly Fishing the Madison (Greycliff River Series #4)
Published in Paperback by Greycliff Pub Co (15 May, 2001)
Authors: Craig Mathews and Gary La Fontaine
Average review score:

A distillation of decades of experience
Volume three in the oustanding Greycliff "River Books" series, Fly Fishing The Madison offers the aspiring angler a distillation of decades of experience, knowledge, and insight in this "user friendly" guide to fishing Montana's Madison river. Here is a wealth of information on the hatches, seasons, and reaches of the river, along with "tips, tricks & techniques" for unlocking the secrets of an surprisingly diverse river. The authors show how to fish the Madison with dry flies, nymphs, and streamers, as well as pointing out the right moments for each type of fly. Of special interest is Craig Mathews' contributions about fishing the Madison's two "stillwater" areas -- Hebgen Lake and Quake Lake. If you are planning an excursion to the Madison, begin by a thorough reading of Craig Mathews and Gary LaFontaine's Fly Fishing The Madison! Also very highly recommended for the angler's reference shelf are the other volumes in this outstanding series: Fly Fishing The Beaverkill; Fly Fishing The Henry's Fork; and Fly Fishing The Yellowstone In The Park.

Four - Karat Fiancee (Millionaire, Montana)
Published in Mass Market Paperback by Harlequin (01 April, 2003)
Author: Sharon Swan
Average review score:

A great addition to the series
This is the fourth book in the Millionaire Montana series. Throughout the series we have been treated to the feuding of Dev Devlin and Amanda Bradley. Dev is the local bad boy saloon owner. Amanda is the prim and proper bookstore owner. Their feud stems from their businesses sharing the same building. Dev wants to buy Amanda out so he can expand. Amanda wants things at the saloon to quiet down so her customers are not disturbed. Even after Dev becomes a millionaire by being part winner of a big lottery jackpot, Amanda refuses to sell to him.

One evening as Amanda is leaving the bookstore, she is accosted by one of Dev's patrons. Dev steps in and saves Amanda. When Dev walks Amanda home to make sure she makes it OK, they begin to talk and their relationship takes a turn. Amanda has just found out the father who left her and her mother years earlier had four young children who have just been orphaned. She is determined to get custody of her brothers and sisters and take care of them no matter what she has to do. Dev offers again to buy her out if money becomes a problem and for the first time Amanda says she'll consider it depending on what she learns from Child Services about custody. When Dev follows up with Amanda after the meeting, he discovers that Child Services doesn't think Amanda can provide the kind of home the childrey need because she is single. The children are going to be split up, some going to foster care, some probably being adopted. One look at a picture of the four small children convinces Dev he has to do everything he can to help save them including convincing Amanda to a marriage of convenience. It's not long before Dev finds himself falling in love with the four kids and Amanda but can he convince Amanda that his bad boy days are behind him and he'll stick around better than her own father did?

Georgia O'Keeffe (Portraits of Women Artists for Children)
Published in Paperback by Little Brown & Co (Juv Pap) (September, 1993)
Author: Robyn Montana Turner
Average review score:

Advanced Art Appreciation of the Work of Georgia O'Keefe
Of the various juvenile books devoted to the life and art of Georgia O'Keefe, this volume by Robyn Montana Turner, is the most determined attempt to explain the artist. Turner uses a few of O'Keefe's most famous paintings, such as "Cow's Skull: Red, White, and Blue," but is more interested in pivotal paintings that reflect her evolving style. This includes several early works from her art student days and means you will see "Oriental Poppies" rather than "Petunia" or "Morning Glory with Black." Because of this focus on the development of O'Keefe as a painter, the biographical details of her life are important only as they introduced the artist to people and places that become important to her paintings. Consequently, this book is really a step or two beyond a basic Art Appreciation type of introduction to O'Keefe's work. This book is the first in the "Portraits of Women Artists for Children" series, although certainly Turner aims higher than what is commonly meant by that designation. This is not a book for kids, nor is it a book for people with only a passing interest in art. This is a serious attempt to explain the uniqueness of a major American artist and a great book to turn to after receiving a basic introduction to O'Keefe from something like Mike Venezia's volume in the "Getting to Know the World's Greatest Artists" series.
